This Code of Ethics safeguards canine welfare and preserves breed integrity for future generations.
1. WELFARE FIRST
Breed only healthy, mature canines, free from hereditary defects.
Provide proper nutrition, veterinary care, and safe housing.
Puppies must remain with their dam and litter until at least 8 weeks of age before placement in new homes.
2. RESPONSIBLE BREEDING PRACTICES
Plan litters with the goal of strengthening health, temperament, and breed character.
Avoid close inbreeding unless under veterinary or genetic guidance.
Do not breed canines with known hereditary defects.
Refrain from cosmetic alterations such as tail docking or ear cropping unless medically necessary.
These standards apply equally to purebred and designer canines — welfare always comes before novelty or profit.
3. Honesty & Transparency
Accurately represent pedigrees, health status, and lineage.
Provide buyers with truthful information about traits, care requirements, and potential challenges.
Issue registration papers, contracts, and health records promptly and without misrepresentation.
4. Placement of Puppies
Screen potential owners to ensure responsible, lifelong care.
Never sell to pet shops, brokers, or puppy mills.
Offer ongoing support to new owners.
Accept responsibility for rehoming if an owner can no longer keep the canine.
5. Professional Conduct
Treat fellow breeders, owners, and registry staff with respect.
Cooperate fully with inspections or audits when required.
Uphold the reputation of the Breed Union Registry through consistent ethical practice.
Conduct oneself in a manner that protects the credibility, integrity, and prestige of the Breed Union Registry (PTY) Ltd at all times.
6. Community Conduct
Engage respectfully with breeders, buyers, and Breed Union Registry (PTY) Ltd staff.
Avoid defamatory or harmful behavior, including on social media and public platforms.
Support the Registry’s mission to promote ethical breeding and inclusive recognition.
